Emerald Fire by Hallee Bridgeman
Review by Teisha Priest
I recently reviewed Sapphire Ice, by Hallee Bridgeman. After reading it, I was really looking forward to the second book in her series, Emerald Fire, and I was not disappointed!
In Sapphire Ice we met Maxine, the middle sister. I enjoyed reading more of her story in Emerald Fire. Another recurring character was the lawyer, Barry, who figures prominently into the story this time. Both Barry and Maxine have dealt with some very difficult circumstances in their lives. Unfortunately, their choices haven’t always made the situation better. But in the end, God’s grace can bring about good from anything, no matter how much we mess it up. Emerald Fire illustrates that beautifully!
One of the things I appreciate about Hallee’s characters in Emerald Fire is that they are very real and imperfect people. Maxine and Barry each have spiritual struggles they must work through over the course of the story. I also liked the fact that they faced the consequences of their decisions. The message that God works in every circumstance is encouraging and uplifting.
The ending felt a tad rushed, though the storyline was resolved well. One of the characters is in a serious car accident, and Hallee’s writing on the subject is excellent and very realistic. We get a glimpse of the recovery process that follows, but I wish that part had been expanded a bit more.
Sometimes the second book in a series just doesn’t turn out to be as good as the first. Happily, Emerald Fire is one of the exceptions! I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first book in the trilogy. It’s a good book with a solid message. But be warned, once you read Sapphire Ice and Emerald Fire, you will be anxiously awaiting the third book!
